Introduction:
Reading Promotion Week was
celebrated with great enthusiasm at PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Ambarnath,
Shift-II, from 24/10/2024 to 31/10/2024. The event was organized to instil a
love for reading among students and staff, improve literary skills, and promote
creative expression. The week witnessed a variety of engaging activities aimed
at fostering a lifelong passion for books and literature.
Objectives:
Encourage students to explore the
joy of reading through diverse activities.
Develop critical thinking,
creativity, and communication skills.
Provide a platform for students to
showcase their talents in reading and writing.
Activities Conducted:
1.Book Exhibition:
A wide range of books, including
fiction, non-fiction, reference books, and children’s literature, were
displayed in the library. Students, teachers, and parents
visited the exhibition, appreciating the variety and learning about new titles.

2.Bookmark Design Contest:Students created creative bookmarks
using different themes like “Reading is Fun” and “Books are Our Best Friends.”

3.Essay Writing Competition:Theme: “The Importance of Reading
in Today’s World.” Participants showcased their
writing skills and shared thoughtful insights on the role of books in life.

4.Book Review Writing
Competition:
Students wrote reviews of their
favorite books, analyzing the plot, characters, and themes.

5.Quiz Competition:An exciting quiz was conducted to
test students' literary knowledge, focusing on books, authors, and famous
literary works.
6.Poster Making Competition:
Themes: “The Joy of Reading” and
“My Dream Library.” Students used their artistic skills
to create vibrant and meaningful posters.

7.Hindi Story or Poem Telling
Contest:Students narrated stories or
recited poems in Hindi, showcasing their oratory and storytelling abilities.
Prize Distribution Ceremony:
The event concluded with a grand
Prize Distribution Ceremony where the winners of various competitions were
felicitated.
Principal Sir and Vice-Principal
sir appreciated the efforts of the students and encouraged them to continue
exploring the world of books.
Conclusion:
Reading Promotion Week at PM SHRI
Kendriya Vidyalaya Ambarnath, Shift-II, was a remarkable success. The
activities and competitions inspired students to embrace reading and creative
expression. The event was a step forward in creating a vibrant reading culture
in the school.

Under the PM SHRI (Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India) initiative, our school successfully organized Reading Promotion Week 1 from 23 August to 31 August 2024. This event was designed to foster a love for reading, enhance students' literary skills, and create a vibrant literary culture within the school. The week featured a series of competitions , all aimed at encouraging students to explore literature, express their creativity, and develop critical thinking abilities.
Below is the detailed the activities:
1. 27.08.2024: Read aloud Competition
The week commenced with the Read aloud Competition, which aimed to develop students' oral communication and narrative skills. The competition was conducted group wise for students from classes 3-5 and 6-8. Participants showcased their storytelling talents, drawing from a variety of sources such as folk tales, personal experiences, and original stories. The event was successful in boosting students' confidence, creativity, and public speaking abilities.
2. 28.08.2024: Correct Words Per Minute Competition
On 28 August, the Correct Words Per Minute Competition was held for students from classes 1-8, organized class wise. This competition focused on assessing and improving students' reading fluency and accuracy. Participants were tested on their ability to read quickly while maintaining comprehension and accuracy. The event was effective in encouraging regular reading practice, which is crucial for enhancing literacy skills.
3. 29.08.2024: Book Review Writing Competition
The Book Review Writing Competition took place on 29 August, where students from classes 6-8 were tasked with critically analyzing and reviewing books they had read. Organized class wise, this competition encouraged students to reflect on the themes, characters, and narrative techniques used by authors. The event was successful in promoting critical thinking, analytical skills, and thoughtful reading habits, as students articulated their personal responses to the books.
4.30.08.2024: Story Telling Competition
The week commenced with the Story Telling Competition, which aimed to develop students' oral communication and narrative skills. The competition was conducted group wise for students from classes 3-5 and 6-8. Participants showcased their storytelling talents, drawing from a variety of sources such as folk tales, personal experiences, and original stories. The event was successful in boosting students' confidence, creativity, and public speaking abilities.
5.31.08.2024: Poem Recitation Competition
The Poem Recitation Competition was held on 31 August, with students from classes 3-5 and 6-8 participating groupwise. This event aimed to celebrate the beauty of poetry and improve public speaking skills. Participants recited poems, showcasing their ability to express emotions, modulate their voice, and engage the audience. The competition was successful in fostering an appreciation for poetry and enhancing students' memorization and cognitive abilities.
